Teen Falls Through Skylight
A Teen has been hospitalized after falling through a skylight on his school.
PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) — A 14-year-old boy is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he fell through the roof of a school’s gymnasium skylight Wednesday night.
Police received a call just before 8:30 p.m. requesting medical assistance at William E. Waters Middle School.
According to the caller, a teenager fell through the roof of the school building and landed on the gymnasium floor. Police tell 13NewsNow people with the teen carried him out of the school, and called 911. Minutes of receiving that call, a burglar alarm went off at the school.
Medics took him to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.
Detective Misty Holley said other children were with the 14-year-old, but police weren’t sure why the children were on the roof.
Officers have not charged anyone at this time.
Tanyaka Vaughan whose own children were walking past the school at the time of the incident heard one of the children involved screaming for help.
She told 13News Now that her children saw the 14-year-old who was unable to move or hold his head upright. They saw severe injuries to his mouth and the upper part of his face.
